There are various important sights such as the Bacardi Museum, the City Hall from where Che Guevara proclaimed victory and many more place to visit.

City of Music

As the name already suggests, Santiago de Cuba is also called the City of Music. It is home to traditional Cuban music and dances such as Rumba. Hence, check out the many places in town that have life music.

As Santiago de Cuba played a very important role during the Cuban revolution, there is a number of little shops that sell all sorts of items, newspapers, original posters on this subject.

What to see in Santiago de Cuba is the carnival

The largest, most famous and most traditional carnival in Cuba is celebrated towards the end of July. While I did not attend this event, locals prepare all year for it.

Fiesta del Fuego

The eight days Fiesta del Fuego takes place in the first weeks of July.

Fiesta del Caribe

This also takes place beginning of July.

Bahia de Santiago

Otherwise, book a cruise in the large Bahia de Santiago.

Wreck diving

Together with beaches and all year around tropical climate, the area provides good diving spots. There are a number of ship wrecks of the Spanish-Cuban-American wars off the coast.

What to see in Santiago de Cuba is a baseball game

If you are a baseball enthusiast, the national sport of Cuba, and you are there late winter through spring, watch a game at the Estadio Guillermo Moncada. Santiago’s team is among the best of Cuba.

Ferry to Cayo Granma

A fun thing to do is to hoop onto a ferry boat. It takes you around the Bay of Santiago all the way to the tiny island of Cayo Granma. There is a little fishing village to visit.

For some chilling time, walk down to the shore. Have a look at the Bay of Santiago de Cuba while having a drink at the floating bar at the ferry port.

What to see in Santiago de Cuba should include the local beer factory

Close to the ferry port, you will also find the rather new and small beer factory, Cerveceria Puerto del Rey on Avenida Jesús Menéndez (Aduana Y Duvergel).

It was inaugurated in occasion of the 500 year anniversary of Santiago de Cuba. It uses Austrian technology to produce several types of beer including malt beer.

If not so much into walking, there are a number of transportation possibilities to take you to your destination.
