SHOPPING IN THE MODERN PART OF MARBELLA

The modern part of Marbella city features a number of nice shops. While there are some hidden away boutiques in the side streets, Av. Ricardo Soraino could be considered the main shopping street. You will find Mango, H&M and other international brands. Banks, ATMs, money exchange offices, etc. abound here.

LA CANADA

The Parque Comercial La Canada is a good option for spending some time especially when it is seriously hot or the odd rainy day outside. Starting in July, there are amazing sales going on.

RESTAURANTS ON THE 1ST FLOOR

You will find shops, restaurants (also serving sushi and wok), hairdresser, movie theatre, you name it. Nearby, there is a huge electronic shop and a DIY.

GREAT SUPERMARKET

La Canada has very large supermarket catering for every desire. In the corridor flanking the supermarket there is a bank and a money exchange bureau.

HOW TO GET THERE

While there is public transportation, it is best in a rental car. There is plenty of outside parking as well as a covered garage. Keep in mind that after 06:00PM, the place does get pretty crowded. I would rather recommend to go in the morning hours.

Old town of Marbella

SHOPPING IN THE OLD TOWN OF MARBELLA

I have already mentioned the Old Town in my other post on Marbella.

However, I am coming back to it as it is a good place to spend your shopping money in one of the innumerable shops. They carry much of what is sold on the beach but at cheaper prices. In addition, it is a very pleasant place to just wander around.

DINNER

And, when tired of shopping, you can stop for dinner in one of the many restaurants.

SIESTA TIME

One recommendation I would like to make is that you need to keep in mind the local siesta time which is very rigorously adhered to. This makes sense as it does become very hot during the peak hours of the day.

Going to town in the early afternoon is senseless. The shops are closed and the streets deserted.

So, shopping is best done after 06:00PM. Shops in Marbella remain open up until late in the evening.

SHOPPING IN PUERTO BANUS

If on a shopping spree in Puerto Banus, you will find all the international luxury brands represented. You might want to fill your purse abundantly if that is your intention. Apart from shopping, it is nice to go to Puerto Banus for just some chill time. Admire the gorgeous yachts, have a good albeit expensive drink and watch the luxury cars passing by.

CORTE INGLES

Otherwise, there is the El Corte Ingles. It is a big shopping mall with a large supermarket on the ground floor. Mind you, there are several Corte Ingles scattered in the area around Marbella but this one is one of the largest ones.

The Corte Ingles has an underground garage so no problem with parking. Up to now, I have always found a spot for my car. Alternatively, there are more garages close by.

STREET MARKET IN PUERTO BANUS

Across from the shopping mall is the central square of town with a number of stalls with pretty inexpensive summer wear, moroccan art works and some food stalls. Try the mini pancakes with a variety of toppings.

STREET MARKET EVERY SATURDAY

Every Saturday, another large street market takes place. It is located near the bull ring in Nueva Andalusia. While just one minute from Puerto Banus main square, it is a steady uphill walk.

PARKING

Parking in the area is close to impossible. Unless you go around 10 AM, you might be lucky to find a spot in a garage. Albeit, you might find that a number of stalls are just starting to build up their vending space.

HAVE A BITE

Plenty of coffee shops and restaurants in the area to visit when tired of walking in the rather crowed alleys of the street market.

______________________

These are just a few suggestions but obviously there is plenty more around to do your shopping. Driving from Marbella towards Malaga, you pass through a number of places be it Mijas, Torremolinos etc. They all have their own shopping areas.
