Restaurants in Providenciales – many places to choose from

It is said that Providenciales has a higher pro-capita number of restaurants than San Francisco. So, one would think that the decision on where to eat out is not an issue.

Albeit, I guess, it is always helpful to get an opinion on the various places. I have been to Providenciales several times now and this is the list of my preferred places.

Bay Bistro – Great beach and sunsets

Bay Bistro Restaurant in Providenciales

It is located in the Sibonne Beach Hotel. Food is just alright. However, what I enjoyed most was the beach during the day. The seawater has the most amazing colour as it gets deep after a couple meters. Hence the fantastic shades of turquoise. It has beach chairs and umbrellas where you can enjoy one of the best sunsets ever.

CocoVan – small dishes enjoyed in a very nice atmosphere

cocovan

This Providenciales restaurant is run by the brother of the owner of the famous Coco Bistro. It is located in the garden of the latter. He converted a 1974 Airstream into a food truck where he prepares great small dishes. If you do not want to wait in a line, get there really early (5:30 pm) or after 7:30pm. This restaurant is one of my preferred places in Providenciales.

Infinity – meeting place of expats every Friday

Sunset in Providenciales

This place is located in the Grace Bay Club. It is were all the expats living in Providenciales meet up on Friday afternoons/evenings. Hence it becomes rather crowded and the service is not the best. Another Provo restaurant on the beach offering great sunsets.

Solana – Great sushi in a Provo beach restaurant

Solana Restaurant in Providencials

This restaurant in Provo is in the Ocean Club. Like most of the places, it is located on the water with a great beach right in front. There is also a beach bar. I had some very good crispy dragon roll and spicy shrimp roll.

Kin Khao – Thai food in Providenciales

Kin Khao Restaurant in Providenciales

This is a very simple Thailand Chinese Restaurant with neon lights located at the side of the main road. Having said that, my green curry with beef was delicious. The other people at my table were just as satisfied. This restaurant does “take out food” as well just in case you do not feel like cooking one night.

Somewhere – Mexican restaurant in Provo

Eating out in Providenciales on the Turks and Caicos Islands

If you are into Mexican food, you should try the Fajitas with Lobster (seasonal) at this Provo restaurant. It also has a great guacamole and margherita drink. Every evening they have some special going on, especially on drinks. It gets pretty crowded.

Bugaloo’s – chilling under palm trees

Restaurant Bugaboo, Providenciales on the Turks and Caicos Islands

If you are into sitting with your feet in the sand and want to taste the local flavours, drive to Bugaboo’s. It is another beach restaurant in Providenciales. You will have to endure the rough and rocky last stretch of road before reaching the place. It is quite unique in its simplicity. Wednesdays is Karaoke night. On Weekends you will find live entertainment.

Magnolia – great view onto the Marina

Restaurant Magnolia, Providenciales on the Turks and Caicos Islands

The Magnolia Restaurant is divided into two parts: a restaurant and a bar. Both have a good view on to the surrounding hills and the sea. Food is good hence it gets rather crowded. Reserving a table is advisable.

Restaurants in Providenciales also include

The Deck – “the new favourite in Provo”

It is located in the 7 Stars Resort in Grace Bay. Right on the beach it offers great lunch as well as dinner. Or, otherwise, go there just for a sundowner in great setting. This place passes for the new Provo favourite.

Bella Luna – best Pizza in town

This restaurant in Provo is composed of two parts. Downstairs, in the garden, it serves very good pizza. Upstairs is the restaurant. I prefer the garden part. Sitting under the palm trees is just nicer. The pizza is great.

Mango Reef – famous for their seafood

This restaurant in Providenciales is located in the Turtle Cove Marina. It has an outdoor restaurant right next to the various yachts. At the entrance there is a casual bar. It is well known for the seafood. I had the tuna carpaccio which was excellent. Others at my table had the grilled lobster (seasonal) and were very satisfied as well.

Hemingway’s Restaurant – maybe you spot “JoJo”

This is another restaurant on Grace Bay beach. Great sunsets and maybe you are lucky to see “JoJo”. This is a wild dolphin that has made this stretch of sea his home. In case you spot him, you need to ring the bell!

Some more tips

Conch

Conch is not only the national symbol of the TCI but also part of the local food.

Make sure that you try it either deep fried, baked, or in a salad. Sometime in November (dates change), the annual Conch Festival is held in Blue Hills. A number of activities are organized.

Lobster

When in season, Lobster is served pretty much everywhere and, in proportion, less expensive than meat.

Lobster harvest ends February of each year, however, it is often extended for a couple of weeks.

Eating out at a local event every Thursday

If you happen to be in Providenciales on a Thursday, check out the Island Fish Fry at Bight Park (5:50-9:30pm). It has a number of food stalls offering the local cuisine. Artists sell their art work including some fashion jewellery.

Unfortunately, the last time I was there not to long ago, I noticed some imported items that had nothing to do with Turks and Caicos.

But, when it gets dark there is great music played by local musicians.

Parking is complicated and walking might turn out to be dangerous as the stretch of road does not have street lights.

Providenciales is not crazy party place

If you are out to do some crazy partying, TCI might not be for you. In fact, it is totally normal to go out for dinner at 6:30 – 7:00. However, there is some night life in the various 5-star hotels.

In Midtown, there is also some activity. Unfortunately, recently some bad robberies have taken place in the area. So, not sure if you want to risk it.

Casino in Providenciales

There is a casino in Providenciales just in case you want to try your luck.

Plenty more restaurants in Providenciales to discover

There are many more places to discover. I only mentioned the ones where I have had personal experience.
