Things to do in Cienfuegos
I took a walk along the 3 km long Paseo del Prado all the way to Punta Gorda. It is Cuba’s longest boulevard flanked by French style columns. Continuing, I got to Punta Gorda and the Centro de Recreation. There is a small bar to have a refreshing drink.
One late afternoon, I enjoyed a sundowner on the roof of the Palacio de Valle with life music albeit played rather unmotivated. I found it overrated and too many tourists but otherwise alright. The drink was included in the entrance ticket.
For the next sundowner, I went to the terrace of the Yacht Club of Cienfuegos. I again paid an entrance fee, however, it did not break my bank.
As I am passionate about boats, I really enjoyed watching all the activities at the mole in front of the Yacht Club. Sun set was again great. However, it was interrupted by a typical tropical rain. Heavy however short shower and sun shine minutes later.
My activity on the third night in Cienfuegos
The third evening, I went up to the roof of my hotel, the Hotel De La Union. Nice view onto the bay, music, and later in the evening some atmosphere does come up eventually.
I also went to a random performance scheduled for that evening at the Teatro Tomas. A popular live band was on. I was surprised by the critical lyrics against the government sung by the young band. The audience loved them.
Opposite the Teatro Tomas Terry, on the other side of the park, you will find the Paladino Bar.
All sorts of things to do on the Jagua Bay in Cienfuegos
As the Jagua Bay is well protected, all sorts of water sport are practiced here. I saw some wind surfers and kite boarders. There were also a number of rowing boats engaged in a race. Small boats of a sailing school were out practicing.
Things to do in Cienfuegos include scuba diving
Otherwise, if you are into scuba diving, check out the largest coral reef in the Caribbean (according to locals) and Notre Dame, an underwater reef that resembles the French cathedral.
Excursion to the waterfalls
I was told that the system of waterfalls of El Nicho are worth a visit, however, as I had done waterfalls already, I did not go.
Off to Varadero for my last days in Cuba
And now I am off to spend my last days in Cuba in Varadero. This time around, I took the Viazul bus as it is the only direct connection without passing through Havana.
Bay of Pigs
On the way, we drove on a costal road which crossed the migration route of crabs from the beach to the land. Sadly, I saw thousands of squashed crabs on the road. The main stop was at the Bay of Pigs. There I found the historical museum. However, at least from the outside, it did not inspired me to a visit.
