EXCURSIONS FROM MARBELLA

Many excursions can be undertaken from Marbella especially if you are mobile with a rental car.

PUERTO BANUS

In the 1960’s, the same Prince Alfonso that had taken Marbella to international fame, got together with the Banus family and developed the high end Puerto Banus resort.

Along the promenade, there are a number of shops carrying luxury brands and many bars and restaurants to chill out. Enjoy the view of beautiful yachts in the little harbor and the endless procession of luxury cars passing by.

TARIFA

This is a charming little town and has an amazing beach. It is some 1:30 hours by car from Marbella. A lot of kiteboarding is practiced here. However, it is somewhat difficult for beginners as the wind might be a bit strong. Plenty of other watersports are also available.

GIBRALTAR

It is a tiny land within Spain which actually belongs to the UK. There could be some waiting time at the border crossing (depending on the season of the year). Visa might turn out to be an issue. In the vicinity, you could get a ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar into Morocco.

RONDA

A popular destination. It lies on a plateau some 700 meters high with a deep gorge separating the old town from the new one. However, both are connected by several bridges. It is among the oldest towns of Spain and can boast remanence of the Roman and Moorish ruling.

SEVILLA

A number of reasons make this place popular: the splendid Alcazar castle still partially inhabited by the Spanish royal family; the impressive bull ring; the Gothic Seville Cathedral which is the burial place of Columbus and featuring a minaret turned bell tower. Not to forget the gypsy area across the bridge with its flamenco and famous Seville ceramics.

CORDOBA

This town was a Roman settlement colonized by the Moorish who transformed it into a center for education and turned it into one of the most important cities in the history of the world. Cordoba has a sub-Mediterranean climate with temperatures soring into the high 30 C degrees in the summer.

GRANADA

It was the last stronghold of the Moors in Western Europe. Among the main attractions of this medieval city are the Moorish built Alhambra palace city and fortress and the Albayzin with its narrow ascending streets.

GREAT HIKING AREA

Apart from cities to visit, there are great hiking areas such the Sierra de Grazalema or the Sierra de Cazorla. Great also for some cycling tours.
