Restaurants in Trinidad
From international cuisine to tapas bar
Eating out in Trinidad is not a problem and caters for every purse. There are sandwich or tapas bar, quite good pizzerias but I will not get into those.
This post is more on restaurants that are somewhat special. Many of them are located in splendid colonial villas.
My preferred restaurant in Trinidad: Restaurant Museo 1514
I really enjoyed my food at the “Restaurant Museo 1514”. It is located in one of the nicest villas built by the Spanish in Trinidad in 1514.
You will find it in Simon Bolivar #515 e/ Juan Manuel Marquez y Fernando Hernandez Echerri. For my taste, the best place to sit is in the little wine cellar. Call before going (+53 41 994255).
Parador Sol y Son is another great restaurant in Trinidad
This is another restaurant in a former colonial villa. It is located in 283 Calle Desengaño and very close to Plaza Mayor.
Call before going (+53 41 992926) and ask to sit in the patio which, I think, is the nicest place.
Eating out at the Los Conspirators Restaurant
Los Conspirators Restaurant is right in the centre of Trinidad. When reserving a table, try to get it on the upstairs balcony. However, space is very restricted there. Two, maximum three people can sit at a table. But you will have a view onto Plaza Major and onto the famous steps. (+53 53 131 400).
Casa de la Musica
This is not so much of a restaurant but more a place to hang out in the afternoon for a mojito. Later in the evening there you will find some great Cuban music and dancing.
El Rancho de la Salsa
This restaurant is located just off Plaza Mayor. It is a restaurant also functioning as lounge area in the early hours of the evening. Later in the evening it turns into a dancing place with life music later.
Disco Ayala
If you are into clubbing, the Disco Ayala is up the hill close by the radio tower. It is built in caves. It is easily reachable by foot.
However, if you hang out really late it is worth arranging for a taxi on the way back. This is due to the fact that you will be passing through a somewhat “bad” area of town.
I was warned by the lady of my casa that security, especially late at night, is not the best. Surveillance cameras have been mounted to keep an eye on locals and tourists that have gone a bit over board with drinking.
Best coffee place in Trinidad
And if you are into coffee, Don Pepe is for you to visit. You will trying out some great Cuban coffee.
